Dear Fellow Members,

As we are approaching the first half of the term, I would to share with you the achievements so far and the exciting plans that our board has put together for you in the coming months.

First of all, I would like to thank and congratulate for having a very energetic, creative and committed executive board in place.  The new executive team, which has many first-time members, has shown outstanding great passion and efforts to understand our members’ needs and deliver some fantastic programs and services this year. Please let me share some of these exciting developments.

We are going even Bigger with Regional Symposium 2014-15!
The last SPMI Regional Symposium in 2013 was the biggest in our history with more than 850 participants from across the globe. This year we are aiming to break our records, not just by the number of delegates, but by the bigger value that we plan to deliver to our members and PM community. The SPMI Regional Symposium 2014-15 will be held from 25th - 27th March, 2015. The theme for this year’s symposium is ‘Today to Tomorrow: Leading Vision to Reality’. As we are celebrating 10 years of success in organizing Symposiums, this year we bring a new Professional Development Workshop exclusively for SPMI members. This is going to be one of the biggest event in project management community as this event will cover keynote speeches from industry leaders, excellent speeches from distinguished speakers in project management community, panel discussions and also provides wide networking opportunities with upcoming and veteran leaders from established institutions who have good hold in Asia. I encourage you to register as soon as possible to avail best offers by visiting SPMI Regional Symposium 2014-15 webpage.

Making History with the Project Of the Year Award 2014-15!
I am very delighted and proud to announce the launch of the first-ever Project of the Year Awards (SPMI-POY) 2014-15. These awards will be given to the projects in Singapore that have produced outstanding results and demonstrated excellence in the field of Project Management. We have 2 award categories, Business & Information Systems and Engineering & Construction. This program provides an excellent platform for the organizations to showcase their Project Management capabilities and achievements, as well as assessing themselves against PMI standards and learning from other organizations. This will be one of the most prestigious awards providing an opportunity for the organizations in Singapore to get recognized and rewarded for their outstanding projects. We are also honored to have distinguished business leaders and senior executives in the Judges Panel and Evaluation Committee.

I encourage you and your organization to participate in this program, and have the opportunity to become the winner of SPMI Project of the Year Award 2014-15.   You may find more details and nomination form by visiting the SPMI Project Of the Year Award 2014-15 webpage.

Building Partnerships for Greater Value to You!
We always look for partnership opportunities with other professional organization to expand the learning and professional development avenues for our members. Just few months ago we organized a joint event with itSMF Singapore Chapter on Singapore PDPA regulation that was widely appreciated. And now, I am very pleased to tell you that we have formed a new partnership with the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) Singapore. I am confident that this collaboration will greatly benefit SPMI given the importance of outsourcing skills in project management. We are in process of organizing a joint event with IAOP and you’ll soon hear announcement on that. Stay tuned!

Strengthening Chapter with Governance and Business Plan!
If you recall, in last AGM I presented the initiative and efforts by the previous board in developing the governance and business plan for the chapter. We all appreciated its importance considering the growth of our membership and responsibilities. So I want to assure you that we are progressing with the same commitment in this term also, and the team has achieved some major successes in building governance manuals and business plan. This would enable our chapter to better plan, execute and manage our growth at both strategic level and day-to-day activities.

We have also lined up various professional development events, including seminars, focus groups and panel discussions for you in this term. Your strong interest in these programs has given us the confidence that our team is doing a good job in understanding your needs and delivering the right programs. There are many events planned for you in coming months; so please visit our event webage for the latest listings and registration. And please keep giving us your feedback for us to adjust and improve these programs according to you needs.

Apart from the professional development activities, SPMI always try to play our part in the community service and helping those who needs our attention and support. Presently, the chapter has been helping Windsor Convalescent Home at Pasir Panjang to draft out a strategic IT implementation roadmap.

I would once again like to thank you, the board members and all volunteers for your support and efforts in helping us grow together and lifting our chapter to greater heights.

Sincerely,

Umesh Ursekar
