Call for PMI Singapore Regional Symposium 2013 Speakers

The application for speakers to the PMI Singapore Regional Symposium 2013 is now open. Application deadline is on July 15, 2013. The application form is available in SPMI Symposium website, or download the file directly here. The Project Management Symposium 2013 will be held on Oct 9-10 at Marina Bay Sands Exhibition and Conference Centre. If you believe you can contribute to the event, as either a Subject Matter Expert or as a Project Manager wanting to relate their experience to an audience of over 500 persons, we are looking forward to hearing for you, to be part of the high quality of speakers for the Symposum.

The event provides you a great platform to present your area of expertise, best practices and practical case studies to a community of people who are passionate about management practices. SPMI President Update | Term Achievements

Dear Fellow Members,

It’s my great pleasure to share with you PMI Singapore Chapter’s the term achievements.

My first message in May 2012, we had outlined three key focus areas for the term, first Personal and Professional Development Programs, secondly Symposium and third Governance. And I’m glad, all these 3 areas we have achieved an exceptional success by delivering 19 programs. 

This exceptional success has achieved during the past 11 months with great dedication and hard work of my board colleagues, volunteers and encouragements and supports received from all of you.

Project Management Institute Honors Alex Siow, PMP
with a 2012 PMI Chapter Award for Leadership Recognition of Excellence

Singapore, 25 October 2012 — The Project Management Institute, the world's leading project management member association, announces that it has honored Alex Siow, Singapore Chapter President, with a 2012 PMI Chapter Award for Leadership Recognition of Excellence. The award was presented during PMI’s annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, 20 October 2012 at the Vancouver Convention Center.

The PMI Chapter Award for Leadership Recognition of Excellence pays tribute to the vision and dedication a community leader must have to effectively guide and advance their community and to further PMI’s envisioned goal to help organizations, worldwide, embrace project management and attribute their success to it. Mr. Siow was specifically recognized for the 900% membership growth PMI Singapore Chapter saw under his leadership, as well as his advocacy in activities such as professional and social events for the members.

Increase of Project Management Professional Over the Past 10 Years (Pg 35)

With huge projects being introduced in Singapore, project management professionals have also increased for the past 10 years. The profession started with 194 members since 2002, and have increased to 7657 to date. Similarly, members at the Project Management Institute have witness an increase from 453 to 4135 members. PMI is the largest association in the world, with over 600 thousand members over 185 countries. President of PMI Singapore, Umesh Ursekar said that this profession blends into many industry and other professions. He also said that, with the increase of huge projects such as Gardens by the Bay and Resorts World Sentosa, has led to an increase of such professions. On the other hand, President and CEO of PMI, Mark A Langley, said that with good project management processes in place, companies can reduce up to 27% of risks. PMI held a Project Management Symposium yesterday at Marina Bay Sands , which attracted over 850 people.
